How to apply

In the first instance you should enquire with one of our course administrators:

You should apply to either the University of Leeds or the University of Sheffield. If you choose to apply to the University of Leeds and are accepted by the University of Leeds you will be expected to choose your research project from one of those offered by the University of Leeds. Successful applicants to the University of Sheffield will be expected to take one of the Sheffield projects. This is non-binding so you can change institution at any point up to about a month into the course, but overseas students should note that they will be required to pay an extra fee to modify their visa if they wish to change the University at which they take their research project.

If you wish to apply to the University of Leeds, you can apply online, or download an application form through the following link:

A link to a recent list of projects will be made available to you if you need help deciding whether to apply for a place at the University of Leeds or the University of Sheffield; please contact Fionn Brennan (Leeds) or Jean Simpson (Sheffield) in the first instance, as detailed below.

Candidates for the UK/EC studentships (see link scholarships) should send a full CV describing courses taken, results obtained, overall degree classification, details of any project/diploma work, publications and work experience. Please give names and email addresses of at least 2 academic referees.
