Nanotechnology course study options

There are a range of study options available, to suite your personal or business requirements. Course content for all options is derived from the masters training package:

Full-time MSc option

All four courses are available with this option:

Full-time MSc study entails a 12-month programme, split between Leeds and Sheffield campuses. In order to complete the full MSc programme, students must complete 8 lecture modules, each valued at 15M (Masters credits), and a major project valued at 60M, giving a total of 180M credits.

Part-time MSc option

All four courses are available with this option. Each year, selected modules will be delivered in a short course format to enable part-time study. Three different qualifications are available:

Postgraduate certificate in Nanoscale Science and Technology, Nanoelectronics and Nanomechanics, Nanomaterials for Nanoengineering, or Bionanotechnology – upon completion of 60M credits (4 lecture-based modules).

Postgraduate diploma in Nanoscale Science and Technology, Nanoelectronics and Nanomechanics, Nanomaterials for Nanoengineering, or Bionanotechnology – upon completion of 120M credits (normally 8 lecture-based modules).

MSc in Nanoscale Science and Technology, Nanoelectronics and Nanomechanics, Nanomaterials for Nanoengineering, or Bionanotechnology – upon completion of 180M credits.

Part-time MSc students may take any combination of 30-credit Minor Projects or 30-credit non-laboratory based Case Studies as alternatives to the 60M credit major project, i.e:

2 × Minor projects (30M credits each) or
2 × Case studies (30M credits each) or
Minor project + Case study.

Industrial employees may conduct projects at their place of work, subject to the identification of appropriate topics and supervision arrangement.

Part time study schemes of up to 5 years’ duration for the full MSc programme are available. Please contact the Course Director or Course Administrator to discuss part-time study schemes appropriate to your needs.

Short courses

Selected modules will be available in short-course format, such that they can be attended on a stand alone basis by industrial (or other) delegates (as well as being attended by full-time students as part of their one year MSc programme).
